R. G. Leonard, accompanied by Robert Thornhill, Don Liscomb, Junior Atkins, Dickie Atkins and Jimmie Clatterbuck of the Rappahannock FFA Chapter visited the University of Maryland on April 2nd. They attended a judging school conducted by the Department of Animal Husbandry. This trip was in conjunction .with the 4-H clubs of Rappahannock and Madison Counties. Instruction was given in 3 classes of beef cattle, 2 of hogs and 1 of sheep. On the way home, the boys stopped for some fun at Glen Edio.
ERNEST SMOOT
Graveside services were held Friday at 2 pjn. for Ernest Smoot who lost his life on Tuesday night, March 29th, when fire consumed his home in Harris Hollow. Final rites were conducted in the Washington Masonic Cemetery by the Geest Funeral Parlor with the Reverend John. Frizzell officiating.
Mr. Smoot married Lbula Smoot (who died early in their married life), the daughter of the late Spencer E. and Lucy Riley Smoot. Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Ldring Anderson, and six grandchildren. A son, Richard Smoot, passed away five years ago.
Mr.* Smoot spent his entire life of 79 years in this immediate community. He was known to have an ever sensitive desire to deal fairly and squarely with his fellow men.
Pallbearers named for the services included: E. M. Jones, D. D. Miller, T. C. Lea, John R. DeBergh, Downing Wood, W. A. Miller, C. G. Reid and L. V. Merrill.
