Pvt. Herbert B. Smoot, son of Mr. and Mrs. George T. Smoot, Washington, recently Completed the eight-week Wheeled Vehicle Maintenance Course conducted by the 516th Airborne Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Jackson, S. C.
During the course he studied the basic theory of internal combustion engines, the fundamentals of electrical systems and engaged in practical problems involving the breakdown and repair of vehicles. Special training was also given In shop work in the use of special tools and equipment.
Soldiers showing special mechanical aptitute are selected for the course after they have undergone at least eight weeks of physical training, and instruction in infantry weapons and combat tactics.
