Concerning Work On

Chester Gap Road

The residents of this community ’ were most pleasantly surprised last week when the state road crew jmder the supervision of Moffett Brady and Frank Kinsey finally started the face-lifting job on #610-660 which will result eventually in the hard surfacing of this mile long stretch of road that serves as our main street. Except for short periods of time immediately after an infrequent light dragging job, this road for the past 10 years has been in deplorable shape. While other roads in this area, with far less traffic and serving far fewer families, have received adequate maintenance and even surface treatment, our road has been shamefully neglected. It was about two and a half years ago that the taxpayers of Chester Gap petitioned the State and County Commissioners for proper maintenance and surface treatment and many of us had resigned ourselves to permanently dislocated backbones and broken shock absorbers from' failing to dodge the chuckholes and protruding rocks. So <it is with a rather reserved pleasure but still a real satisfaction to see the work finally get under way and now that it is under way we sincerely hope that a proper job of grading, widening wherever possible and straightening out of the very dangerous blind comer at the Mt. Zion Church, will be done in

Siratiom for the eventual surg.

Education Air Lift

Invitations were sent by the Eastern Air Line Company to five hundred Fairfax teachers for a flight Saturday, May 7th. I was one of the five hundred who accepted and had a flight on one of the company's "Silver Falcons” which held forty passengers. Eastern sent us tickets and stickers for our, cars headed Education Air Lift. The road to Hanger No. 1 from which we loaded was marked at every turn Education Air Life.
