Take Advantage Of
“Disability Freeze?'
1 Many persons in the Washington area who are totally disabled have not taken advantage of the “Disability Freeze" procedure authorized under the 1954 amendments to the Social Security Law. according to Robert E. Parsons, Assistant Manager of the Alexandria Social Security Office.
Parsons stated that this provision of the new law permits a disabled person wlho has worked the required time under social security to have his average income level fixed at the point it had reached when he became disabled. One of the requirements is that the individual must have worked at least 5 years under social security. In the past it was necessary to use the years when the individual was disabled and unable to work along with the years he had worked in determining his average wage or self employment income for social security benefit purposes.
