“He looks so stiff and unbending,” she thought, and she sat there trying to make her mind go blank. But images of the old David looking not at all stiff, kept flashing into her consciousness. . “Admiring the weather for your wedding?” a voice asked brightly. It was her grandmother, pink-cheeked and plump, and wearing a blue hat and a chic new frock.
Carol loved her grandmother, who was as modern apd irrepressible as foam rubber, but now she wished she would go away.
“Is this David?” her grandmother asked, peering at the newspaper on the dressing table.
Carol nodded. “Yes Gran.”
I have a snapshot of him I like better,” Gran said smugly. “I took it just a few minutes ago. I bought you youngsters one of those new cameras that take pictures and develop them in a minute. Thought you might like to have it on your honeymoon.”’ She rummaged in her purse and handed over several snapshots.
