Deactivation of all War Trophy Firearms is the goal of a Treasury Department drive now starting. Because of numerous tragic accidents involving these weapons, Treasury’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Investigators are making an effort to encourage the deactivation of all such guns of the fully automatic type.
Registration of fully automatic firearms is required by provisions of the National Firearms Act, and failure to register them makes them subject to seizure. Stiff penalties are provided for any transfer from one person to another of such weapons if they are not registered. According to Treasury authorities, this old anti-gangster law is intended to prevent the firearms from falling into the hands of*. criminals.
A war trophy, after registration and deactivation, will not in the future come under the law, and
