Many modern homes have “circuit breakers” instead of fuse boxes. They perform the same function as the fuse. Protection from overloading is obtained from a bi-metallic element which opens the circuit if the current exceeds the capacity of the breaker or if a short circuit occurs.
When one of these faults occurs. the circuit breaker handle automatically. jumps to the “tripped” or "off” position. No electricity will flow over the circuit until you have reset the switch to the “on” position, after taking c,re of the difficulty.
The safety provided bv fuses end circuit breakers is an important feature of your electrical service. However, the fact that promotion IS there, should not result in complacency.
