RAPPAHANNOCK
had declined 1.7%. In fact percentages ofyounger people in all age groups 29 years of age and under dropped 7%!
During the same period the states population increased by 8%,829 people or a whopping 37%. Are not businesses based on people? People to produce, people to process, people to sell, people to consume!
What is the situation in your own church? Are there younger people coming on to take over the spiritual leadership now resting on the shoulders of people already over loaded with responsibilities who in addition are becoming less productive?
With a declining population will Rappahannock ever be successful in getting a dentist to locate here ? We have a healthy climate to be sure, but can we get along without the services of a doctors, dentists, preachers, or merchants, filling station operators, teachers, farm laborers, etc.?
Assuming that great leadership ability, business know-how, or basic productiveness is found among people from 30-64 years of age your county has more potential percentage-wise in this respect than at any time in her history! In 1950 35.5% of our population fell in this age group as compared to 31.1% twenty years earlier. People above 65years increased 2.4% percentage wise.
This does mean however, that more and more responsibility is and must be assumed by fewer and fewer people. We are losing people of productive and reproductive ages. Why ?
