Celebrate 90th
Campfire Day
Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins extends a cordial invitation to friends and neighbors of Shenandoah National Park to join in observance of the 90 th anniversary of the National Park idea. Special programs commemorating this event will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, September 22, at the Big Meadows Lodge and 8:30 p.m. Friday, September 23 at SkvJand Recreation Hall.
Origin of a concrete proposal to create National Parks is traced to a Montana lawyer, Cornelius Hedges, who was a member of the Washburn-Langford-Doane expedition which explored the Yellowstone region in 1870. This expedition found the fantastic tales they had heard about this area to be true and even discovered natural phenomena not previously reported. Continued on page four
