Over 400 school patrons, and friends of education,l visited the Rappahannock; County High School on Sunday, September 18, when the Rappahannock County Education Association field Open House.
A fine spirit of cooperation was evident, as teachers from all schools in the county assisted the faculty of the new school in fnaking visitors welcome and comfortable. Members of the junior and senior classes acted as guides.
In every room of the- building the Rappahannock Garden Club gave colorful evidence of their sincere interest in the “all around” education of children. Lovely fall fowers in artistic arrangements delighted all who passed by..:._and a young student was heard to say with much pride, “The Garden Club is going to make us some bouquets that will last all winter”
Is there a child who doesn’t swell with pride and joy, and is definitely a better child, when he, or she, has a big red apple or a beautiful flower to take to teacher? All teachers recognize this.
Vying with the flower arrangements for praise and attention was rf-i spectacular arrangement of garden vegetables in the kitchen. “It is just beautiful!” a lady was heard to exclaim.
All visitors were given drawings of the floor plan of the school, which had been made in the Business Department, and expressions of admiration were heard from all sides as friends of the school moved from room to room. The Science Room and Library were appealing to many.
Refreshments were served in the consilient Cafeteria with counly teachers taking turns at the punch bowls. The cookies were made by the Home Economics students. and were delicious.
Comments heard in the lovely central hall were most complimentary and it is safe to say that all went home with a feeling of pride in their new school.and a very strong conviction that it should be appreciated and taken care of by all connected with it.
Members of the Rappahannock Garden Club who decorated the school for Open House were Mrs. James M. Settle Mrs. W. C. Hall, Mrs. William R. Williamson, Mrs. Charles Estes and Mrs. S. E. Hening.
