Virginia egg prices are due for another rise in the next week or so, as much as two cents more.
State prices haven’t caught up with New York’s rise last week, and both New York and Virginia are short of large white eggs.
In fact, Virginia egg prices ought to show strength for some time to come. The laying flock on September 1 was down four per cent from a year earlier and the potential laying flock was seven per cent less than a year ago.
As old hen movement continues and fewer replacements are added, production ought to be six to seven per cent below last year by October.-November.
There may be some braking action from consumers as retail egg prices continue to climb, but historically, consumers don’t react as much to changes in egg prices as
