Rappahannock has much to be proud of as you have noted from this column in the past; sometimes, however, it helps to write about things we are not too proud of because a lot of our own people just don’t have an opportunity to know about them. For sure we can’t move toward correcting our shortcomings if we aren’t aware of them.
For instance, did you know: the educational level of our citizens 25 years and over is lowest of 22 Northern Virginia Counties? Even so. nine of these counties has a lower percentage of persons 14-17. who are attending school. No wonder our younger educated people are leaving the county when our income is lowest ($989). WHEREAS: The Ladies’ Auxiliary to the Northern Virginia Firemen’s Association has lost by death one of our earnest and active fellow firemen C. M. M. Green, who was a member of Amissville Volunteer Fire Department and departed from us on June 21,1961. and WHEREAS: The close relations long held by our deceased member with the members of our organization render it proper that we should place on record our appreciation of his service as a Fireman, and his merits as a man, and WHEREAS: in the death of our fellow Fireman we have lost a
