On a whole, the beef market looks good this year. Two factors govern this outlook. A* disposable income increases Americans eat more meat, and the per capita consumption of beef has increased over all other meats.
Cattle slaughter was up eight ier cent in January and about four per cent in February.
At Virgiiya sales Hast week, good grade , steers were $23 to$23.25, and standard $21 to $23. A few choice steers sold at $26. Good heifers sold at $20.25 to $22.50 and standard, $18 to $20. At Chicago prime steers sold at a top price of $30, the highest sinceJune 1960. Choice sold at $26.25 to $28.50, and good at $22.50 to $25.25. Choice heifers were $25.50' to $27, and good $22 to $25.25.
