EGGS
The seasonal spring price slide in egg prices has started and is expected to continue until early May.
However, this year’s price decline is not expected to be as great as past years. This is due to the trend of continued flock replacement every month of the eyar.
The normal egg production peak is reached during March, April and May. This is true again this year. However, the changing production cycle in the industry has leveled peaks and valleys during the past 10 years.
Many egg dealers are still buying to cover only immediate needs. There has been only minor action in breaker buying.
Flock replacement should b e fairly heavy this month as a result of a higher hatch of egg type chicks last fall. Egg production in February was up two per cent last month and should continue to advance seasonally during the next three months.
Last! week in Virginia, grade A larges were 32 to 34 cents, down two to three cents from the previous week. Grade A mediums were 29 to 32 cents. In New York grade A large eggs were 34 to 38 cents and grade A mediums were 32 to 34‘cents.
