There is ? bill before Congress, with very rood prospect of its passing, an incentive payment program, whiah will allow payment of $25 for each approved space, in a public or private non-profit institution engaged in health, educational or welfare activities.

Certain minimum standards for public shelter space must be met in construction or alterations which were started after 1st of January 1962.

Interested institutions are encouraged to notify OCDjDOD, Washington 25, D C., of preliminary plans, including type of shelter space, intended alternative uses, estimated cost and other general infrmation.

When the legislation is passed, the local CD offices will be issued copies thereof and application forms will be furnisihied. Inquiries adressed to this office will be forwarded to the State Office.

It is the duty and desire of this office to cooperate in the public shelter program, but it also wishes to encourage the construction of family fall out shelters.

The cost of pick and shovel and a few hand tools and the will to use them, could greatly reduce the over-all costs, plus a rewarding satisfaction of accomplishment and a knowledge of having a share in safeguarding America for their own survival and the nation's future.
