Marching Unit Feted With Buffet Dinner
The marching unit of the Amissville Ladies Auxiliary and their families were entertained with a buffet dinner Saturday evening at the home of Capt. and Mrs. L. B. Stuart in Amissville, from 4 to 7 p.m. Thirty-two guests were present, among them Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Williams and son, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pullen and family, Miss Nancy Settle, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hackley and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Suter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hackley, Eddie Lee Flock, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Hitt, Jr., Miss Peggy Hitt, Miss Lou Ann Phillips, Miss Brenda Joyce Hackley, and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Priest.
The marching unit participated in 22 parades this season and won 21 first place prizes, including trophies and $110 in cash. They took second place at Hamilton when The Plains group was awarded a first.
When the unit was first organized, Capt. Stuart worked with the ladies in practice drills, and according to Mrs. Russell Hackley much of their success can be attributed to his coaching. Mrs. Hackley also expressed the thanks of this group to Capt. and Mrs. Stuart for their cooperation and the buffet.
Lions Sponsoring First Aid Course
The First Aid Course conducted by the American Red Cross and sponsored by the Lions Club of Rappahannock will begin Monday, October 22.
Class will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Parish Hall in Washington. All interested residents are urged to participate. This is an excellen opportunity to prepare yourself for those emergency situations which come to all of us. Certification cards will be issued to those successfully completing the course. This will be a standard course. If there is sufficient interest, arrangements will be made for an advanced course.
