As predicted, rabbit bunting is disappointing. Only those sportsmen owning excellent dogs are enjoying any degree of success, and they certain areas only. Rabbit hunting and beagling is a sport many, many people of all ages enjoy, and we certainly hope the future holds a brighter spot for molly cottontail.
Squirrels
Bushytail is very much in evidence and is drawing sidelong glances of many disgruntled rabbit hunter. And on the table he far surpasses the cottontail. We believe squirrels are more plentiful than they have been in several seasons.
Deer
In our section of Fluvanna County deer are literally everywhere—and for every Ismail game hunter there seem to be a dozen deer hunters. One reason that more deer have not been reported to the checking stations is that its still early in the season and deer hunters are being choosy—passing up does and small bucks for trophy racks.
Turkeys
| The turkey season as usual 'is difficult to assess. There have been scattered reports of the big birds being bagged, but relatively few sportsmen are serious turkey hunters. And the most successful ones are not exactly gabby., ,
Ducks and Doves
All week doves have been tauntingly flitting over our heads, seemlingly enjoying the closed season. And we have reports of several large flocks in porkberry patches. Duck hunters have enjoyed moderate success, but the test of
