Three prisoner* escaped front Rappahannock County jail Saturday but were recaptured and returned to their cells by Sun* day morning, according to Sheriff C. K. Estes.

Deputy Guy Burke was overpowered by the three youths as he, took their supper to them about 6:06 p.m. Saturday. They took his keys, locked him in a ■cellblock corridor and left.

The prisoners who escaped were Norman Richards, 26, William Rankin, 16„ and Ramon Coston, 18.

Richards faced trial the day before for shooting Thomas Caison at Bel Air Restaurant in Amissville and was found not guilty. He was being retained for Culpeper County parole authorities on violation of parole; He had served 12 months of a S-year sentence for a, shooting in Culpeper, before being released in March of 1961. ~

Rankin, an escapee . from a North Carolina prison, was convicted and given a three-year sentence for auto theft here. This was his third escape, twice in North Carolina. He was turned over to State Welfare Authorities. *■ *
