Samuel O. Merritt’s brand of “trick or treat” landed him In jail for one year.
In a trial held yesterday before Municipal Court Judge Austin L. Pickling, Merritt, 50, who says he works in Pennsylvania. actually was convicted of carrying a dangerous weapon, larceny and two counts of assault—based on the account of a Cuban refugee.
Marcos C. Morales, 40, of the 1800 block of Monroe street N.W„ came to the District from Miami a short time ago to work as a carpenter. He was ready to tell his story early in the court day, but the trial was held up until Metropolitan Police Pvt. Jonas Umholts of the Traffic Division could be summoned to act as an Interpreter.
