New Postal ZIP ;
Code in Effect |
Here July 1st
ZIP Code, the Post Office Department’s revolutionary new system for improved mail dispatch and delivery, goes into effect nationally on July 1. Each post office in the nation will have a ZIP Code number and all correspondence should carry the numbers. All -citizens should learn the Code number of their post office and this should be Included in your return address on correspondence. In answering mail, ZIP Codes taken from return addresses on incoming mail should be used. Postmasters in this county stress the the importance of learning and using the code numbers. This is literally the last word in mail addressing and should follow the city and state in addresses. ZIP Code numbers reported in Rappahannock County are: Washington, Va.22747, Huntly, Va.—22640, Woodville, Va.-22749, Flint Hill, Va.-22627, Amissville, Va.-22002, Castleton, Va.-22716, Sperryville, Va.-22740, The ZIP Code plan will permit the Post Office Department to short-cut repeat, ed address reading. The address on mail must often be read as many as eight or ten times by postal employ ees, to get it to its proper destination . Each handling slows the process of mail dispatch and adds to the opportunity of human error. With ZIP Code, a clerk needs only to glance at the code to know immediately to what national area, state and postOffice the letter is destined, and to speed it on its way, cutting up to '24 hours off the time between deposit and delivery.
