Amissville firemen closed their annual carnival Saturday night after a successful four night stand. A financial report is not yet available. This brings the carnival season in the county to a close also. Awards given in die colorful parade Thursday night are: Best appearing and equipped engine over 500 gpm, Penn-Daw; best Under 500 gpm, Navy-Vale; best appearing fire co. and men, Gainesville; one coming longest distance. West Lanhaih Hills, Md.; oldest apparatus, Gordonsvllle. Best rescue squad, PennDaw; second Fredericksburg; best band. Harpers ferry; second, Charles Town; best majorette* group, Fauquier Stepettes; second, Rockville majorettes; best solo majorette, Sharon Thorpe. Best civic float, Amissville Auxiliary; best comic float, Chester Gap; best commercial float, Pepsi-Cola; best marching unit, Sperryville Boy Scout Troop No. 65. A band concert and majorette competition followed the parade on the carnival grounds. Miss Diane Sisk was chosen queen of the carnival and Hon. Tom Frost officiated in the coronation ceremony. Second place was won by Miss Becky Cooper and Miss Mabel Glascock was third. Prizes awarded were a 1963 Valiant which went to Mrs. Jackson Swain of Amissville. The television was given William Lawrence, Marshall and the automatic shot gun went to Roger Jenkins, Rlxeyvllle.
