Fall Armyworm moths are being picked up by entomologist in the south meaning they can be expected in these parts at any time. One of the major insect enemies of grasses, small grains, corn and various vegetable crops, the migrating moths lay eggs which hatch in 2-10 days. The new larvae have jet blackheads and white bodies. Three or four days after hatching the young caterpillars have grown rapidly, turned darker, added stripes and begun to damage the crop. Two weeks later they have reached maturity. The best safeguard is to check crops early, so that control measures can begin before larvae get too big.
