Celebrates 100th Birthday

Mrs. Buchanan Merryman of Washington, 0. C. celebratedher 100th birthday on Monday at Atlantic City, N. J. where she was vacationing Many of her birthdays have been spent here in Rappahannock as the guest of her relative Mrs. Newbold Noyes at Wakefield Manor near Huntly. Mrs. Merryman was dress, ed in lavender lace with a pearl choker for the champayne and orchid celebration on her birthday that featured a cake with 1 candle. Mrs. Merryman is best remembered in Rappahannock as the “Aunt Bessie” who chaperoned her niece nee Wally Warfield to local dances some years ago and kept an eagle eye on the local swains who danced with the young lady who was to become the Duchess of Windsor.

A Birthday telegram from the Duchess datelined Paris read, "Wishing you many more happy days.’1
