Civic Leader, Dies
Merritt A. Greeley, postmaster at Chester Gap since 1954 died Saturday, May 16 in a Washington hospital. Mr. Greeley became ill Thursday while at work and was taken to Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal by Chester Gap Ruscue Squad. Friday he was transferred to Washington where he died the next day. Mr. Greeley was active in county and community civic affairs and was instrumental in the organization of Chester Cap Citizens Association and Fire Company, of which he was president. He operated a general store there for 13 years and dealt in real estate developing Skyverge Estates a subdivision at Chester Gap.
