Bridge Party
Mrs. Mary B. Qualntance was hostess to Sperryville bridge club and additional guests at her home Friday. Included on the guest list were Mrs. C. H. Estes, Mrs. Lucio Kilby, Mrs. R. E. Wood, Mrs. F. W. Schaefer, Mrs. R. E. Patzig, Mrs. Brown Miller, Mrs. T. J. Pillar, Mrs. Elmo Flynt, Mrs. A. E. Goddard, Mrs. Roy Reeve, Mrs. R. E, Thompsen, Mrs. W. H. Lyne, Mrs. E. N. Montague, Miss Belle Strother, J. W. Coates and R. E. Wood. Prizes were awarded Mrs. R. E. Wood, Mr. Wood, Mrs. Goddard and Mrs. Patzig.

Old Fashioned!
What does Thanksgiving mean to you? Football! Thd lovely floral parade in Pasadena, with pomp, beauty and ceremony. Being invited out to dinner, or not having to work, or go to school. It may! And if so, is that all? If Thanksgiving Day is a ‘legal holiday* which allows you to do what you want, to perhaps go hunting, sleep late, or in general ‘be entertained*, then you miss the reality of its underlying truth. You are intoxicated by your own ‘appetite’ for creature comfort. You are insenstitive to your owncreatureliness.
The need for giving thanks grew out of the hearts of the people, on whose shoulders we stand. . . our early relatives of the year 1621. They felt the deep gratitude for the blessings which they had been allowed to partake of. . . They did not do it because of proclamation, but they did it from their own gratitude. Proclamation was merely the formalizing for the entire nation, to remind all mankind that we ought to set aside a time to ponder our ’gifts’ and to corporately give Thanks to our Creator and Preserver.
Marriage Announced
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Tearman of Wytheville, announce the marriage of their daughter, Mrs. Helen Bean, to Roger Schaffer White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carter White of Slate Mills. The marriage took place October 11, 1964. Mr. and Mrs. White are making their home on the Reva Road.
