Clyde Beggarly (deceased) and Mrs. W. C. Campbell of Washington are pictured in the early 1950’s inspecting the monument near the Courthouse which was erected twenty years prior to give information regarding the Town of Washington. Mr. Baggarly had compiled the information from personal papers and research and Mrs. Campbell was one of the supporters of the monument building project. A meeting will be held in the Court House on Monday nigh^ December 14 to organize a County Historical Society which would compile inform** tion on the early history of all sections of the county. According to the monument the Towh of Washington was Organized and Established by the General Assembly on December 14,1794 and It seems that 168 years later would be a most fitting time to undertake a new look at that era in this section of the state that now comprises Rappahannock County.
