Will Build Pond
The ring of axes and buzzing of saws shattered the quiet of a glen on the Aubrey Curtis farm near Amissville last week and members of the Rappahannock Coon Club with head quarters at Amissville began work on a large pond to be used for club activities. The pond, in a natural setting with beautiful scenery, will be 350 feet by 250 feet, and has been surveyed by the Soil Conservation Department. Labor is volunteer and donations have been made to take care of the excavating. Coon hound water races are becoming an ever increasingly popular sport over this country and a pond or lake is the first necessary item for them. Hound owners bring their dogs from miles around to compete in the races. Meetings of the Rappahannock Coon Club are open to the public and are held at Amissville Fire Hall the first Tuesday of each month. Both men and women are eligible to join. New officers elected for the club are B. A. Cooke, president; Braxton James, vicepresident; John Hitt, secretary and Ralph Settle, treasurer.
