kins, only one minor traffic incident was reported on the 105-mile Skyline Drive in the heavy traffic. The heaviest travel weekend recorded last year was October 17-18 with 67,200 visits. This year’s total was a 10% increase over 1964. Visits to the Park Saturday were 30,900 and Sunday were 43,400.
It was the concensus of Park Rangers reporting from the field that the autumn color was at its peak of brilliance during the weekend. However, with continued mild weather, those who travel to the park this week and over the weekend should not find a disappointing display.
Only one minor accident was reported in Rappahannock from the heavy traffic, and that occurred at Massies Corner, when a vehicle slowed down and was struck from the rear. Local State Police reported a minimum, of conjes- j tion most of the weekend.
