Laborer Dies After
Fall From Tree
An itinerant laborer, Robert Thornton, was pronounced dead on arrival at Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal, Monday after he had fallen from an apple tree. Thornton was picking apples in an orchard owned by Tom Lee near Washington when he fell. He was taken to the hospital by the labor crew leader, Willie Rogers. It is believed that Thornton died of a heart attack rather than from injuries resulting from the fall. A post-mortem is being performed.
Local Ladies Attend Cancer Conference
A meeting of the Virginia State Cancer Society will be held in Roanoke on October 21 and 22. Attending from Rappahannock County will be Mrs. Francis Leonard, of Amissville, who is president of the local cancer unit, and Mrs. Glen Lathrop, also of Amissville. The next scheduled meeting for the Rappahannock Unit will be November 4 at the court house, Washington beginning at 7;30 p. m. Mrs. Leonard reports that several new pieces have been added to the local loan closet, including side rails for a bed and mattress protectors.
