Warrenton Man Shot

At Cross Creek

Jesse Leroy Yates died of a bullet wound in the lower neck received during a shooting scrape at Cross Creek dance hall near Amissville in the wee hours of Sunday morning. The victim was a 31-year-old man who lived near Warrenton.

Cross Creek is located on Highway Route 211 on the narrow four mile strip of Culpeper County that extends up between the Rappahannock and Fauquier County lines, and is owned and operated by William Morgan of Amissville. Yates was taken to the Fauquier Hospital, Warrenton by John Malvin where he was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. James L. Dellinger, medical examiner. Culpeper County Sheriff, Robert Peters declined to give information regarding the nature of the argument leading to the shooting or the weapon, except that it was a pistol and his investigation was continuing.
