Dear Editor:
The letter of Mrs. Pauline Bruce in the November 11 News should bring the good citizens of this County up with a start.
There has been, I think, a fairly widespread view that reckless driving by truckers was much too common. Some have had individual experiences supporting this opinion. Sometime ago, for example, we were passed on a blind curve, across solid lines, by a large truck. This was on 522 just north of Woodville. Had another vehicle been coming around the curve the trucker would have had the choice of hitting him head-on or sideswiping us off the road. Of course this is just one case. But here is a lady, who regularly commutes on 211, giving us the evidence of serious malpractice by truckers, including the horrible case of the death of the three nurses. Not an isolated instance but occurring with some frequency.
No one wants to deny anyone the right to make a living. We all know that the stores are primarily stocked by truck transportation. Many of us need gravel for our roads and driveways, and our farmers need lime for their land. But does this justify what appears to be intentional violating of speed laws at this mounting cost in lives and property?
