The county budget and local sales taxes were major matters on the agenda at the May meeting of the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors which was held Friday. ! The Boa rd advocated the levy of a one percent' local' sale* tax which would become effective September 1. the same time that the state sales tax goes into effect, and also advocated a tax on utilities, telephone and electricity, set at ten percent on the first ten dollars. This also would be effective September 1. A public hearing will have to be held before this action can be finalized, and is tentatively set for the June meeting of the Board on Friday the 3rd. A notice of the hearing will be advertised well in advance.
