The budget submitted by an appointed committee, was approved with minor changes, and takes into consideration the levy of the local sales tax. The county budget, too, will be published in this paper in the near future, followed by a public hearing, before it can be officially adopted. One change in the recommended budget, was an increase for school board members salary which has been $20 per month. The advocated salary is $25 per month, a five dollar increase. Vetoed was a $250 annual increase in the Home Agent’s salary. The resignation of Mrs. Doris D, Morgan, Home Agent, was accepted with regrets. This is effective as of May 31. No certain replacement was available at present, but two possibilities were discussed with no concrete action taken. A report from state inspectors on conditions during inspection of, Rappahannock County jail was extremely good. The jail was noted as being clean and well kept. An appropriation of$500was made for a Rappahannock County Fire School which will include instruction for firemen throughout the county. Paul Poling of Amissville was present to make the request and report on a similar school held last year. Mr. Poling, along with the board members, hopes for and urges wide participation by the fire company members. The school is scheduled for the fall, probably October, and the time and place will be announced after plans are finalized. A parking lot for county employees which will be located behind the courthouse was approved and work will begin on it soon. The entrance to the lot will be located behind the jail off of Mt. Salem Avenue.
