Construction of the 124 acre lake began in 1964 and the new facility was stocked that fall with channel catfish, bluegill and redear sunfish. Bass were added in mid-1965 and northern pike were stocked last fall. These fish have exhibited normal growth and recent sampling revealed bass which averaged about 9 1/2 inches, blue gill which went about 6 ounces and channel cats in the 1-2 pound class. A special size limit is contemplated for the lake to protect the growing bass from over-harvest. Size and creel limits will be posted at the lake. Gasoline motors are prohibited as on other state fishing lakes. Overnight camp ing is not permitted on any state fishing lake property. There is no charge for fish ing in any of the Commission owned lakes, but state license requirements apply and there may be charges for boats and other facilities provided by concessionaires. Orange County Lake is locat ed about 5 miles southeast of Orange. It is reached via Route 629 leading off Route 20 two miles east of Orange. There is a graveled parking area and boat ramp at the lake. A commission sign on Route 629 marks the entrance to the lake.
