Area Spelling Bee
Finals on Saturday
The Northern Virginia Piedmont Area Spelling Bee finals will be held Saturday, May 6 at Ann Wingfield Junior High School, Culpeper, beginning at 10 a.m. Counties participating in this area are Rappahannock, Orange, Culpeper, M a d i s o n and Fauquier. Six students from each of these counties will compete in the area finals Saturday, but there will be much more at stake than the area championship. The winner of this Spelling Bee will go on to compete in the National Spelling Bee finals in Washington, D. C. on June 8. The Washington trip includes three days of sightseeing and two days of competition on Wednesday, June 7 and Thursday, June 8. The Bee will be held at the Mayflower Hotel there. The Piedmont Area Spelling Bee is sponsored by the Culpeper Star-Exponent in Culpeper. Those from Rappahannock contending are Janet Payne, Barbara Durden, Charla Ann Sisk, Drucilla Davis, Lois Yates and Mauri Raney.
