With but 0.87 inches of rainfall, April was the driest in 23 years at Washington, Va. In 1966 we had 4.19 inches during this particular month.
Based upon average monthly rainfall the total for the first four months of 1967 was short by 3.79 inches.
Pastures and gardens are considerably short for this time of year. Also, desirable pasture plants are fewer than I have observed in a number of years. Present cover on the better pastures is estimated I to be 50% weeds. i
Average for the last kiiling frost (32 degrees) in Rappahannock is around April 24. Ideal corrr planting time: one week before to one week after this date. Research has shown that for every day late (after May 1 here) corn is planted the per acre yield is reduced one bushel.
