Wool growers who expect j 1967 payments on shorn wool ar lambs sold had better get ausy and file applications for payment with the ASCS office, Mr. Barksdale, chairman, of Rappahannock County ASC | Committee, advises. ASCS wants to have all applications
on hand not later J than January 31 to submit! sales information to the Data Processing Center (DPC). Sub mission of this information to DPC is required for use as! part of the data that goes into the determination of the national average price received in 1967. The national average' price in relation to the in-j centive level determines the percentage level of sales price on which individual farm payments are computed. For example, in 1966 the national average price for wool sold was 52.1 cents per pound, whereas the incentive level was 65.0 cents per pound The difference between the two was 12.9 cents or 24.8 percent of the national average price. The average price received by each grower for his wool was multiplied by 24.8 percent to determine each; grower’s incentive payment in dollars. Thus, the higher the price received by each grower for his wool, the larger the payment, Mr. Barksdale explained. He urged wool producers to delay no longer in submitting wool sales slips and filing their applications for payment for the marketings of wool during the calendar year ending December 31, 1967. Payments on applications are expected to be announced in early April.
Weather Facts
After being caught in the icy grip of winter for several weeks, the area was granted a reprieve by Mother Nature and a few sunny days were accompanied with more agree able temperatures. Most of the ice and snow disappeared though the balmy weathers were short lived. A sprinkling of snow fell Tuesday night and at presstime some precipitation was falling, a mixture of rain and snow.
The Highway Department reports that up until the first of the week 280 tons of salt and chloride have been used on the primary roads in Rappahannock County. Over 390 tons of sand and crushed stone have been used on primary and sec ondary roads to combat the snow and ice.
