Last Spring when I learned from the Hawaiian itinerary that one desiring to depart from Honoiidn for San Francisco nther than for Los Angeles could do so for the same fare, I began to dream.
Ml of my life I wanted to see something of California especially the Golden Gate Bridge and the Big Redwood Trees. I wrote my desire to NRTA who sent me a folder of the Califomir Parlor Car Tours. Upon my arriva at Los Angeles, NRT/ representative met with me ant we made my plans. They assurec me they would make all of mj reservations and send them tc Terry” our guide in Honolulu Tnis was done and there was noi a hitch in my reservations. Due to Mrs. R. V. Snead’i recommendation of the El Cortes Hotel in San Francisco I was booked there. Three of our group were there for one night on theii way to Philadelphia. We reached the El Cortez in late afternoon ol September 18. We were given oui rooms. When I came down to dinner I asked the desk clerk 1 will call Mr. X, for I didn’t leam his name, about tours. He advised me to take the city tour by the Gray Line Bus the next morning. Then he sold me a ticket for dinner and a tour of China Town for the night. He told me 1 would be pickedup at the hotel at 6:30 for the tour. After dinner I went to my room and I admit since I had been with a group of forty one and on the “go”, I felt a bit lonely.
