On Sunday, November 17, all telephones in the exchanges of Culpeper (this includes AmissviUe), Criglersville, Madison and Sperry ville will be connected to the direct distance dialing network. Ibis will mean that subscribers will be able to dial direct station-to-station calls to any one of some 90 million telephones in the continental United States. This change represents one of the biggest advances in the 92 year old history of the telephone since it was first demonstrated by Alexander Graham Bell on March 10,1876.
Direct distance dialing by telephone customers is designed to speed up completion of long distance calls. Each year, the volume of long distance calls grows and facilities such as DDD are requited to provide telephone users fast, dependable service.
