Madison, GordonsviUe, UnionviUe and Sperryville. 'Hie local C&P manager, F. Wayne Dementi, said that if a subscriber wishes to dial direct a long distance call, for example, to Buffalo,.New York, all he would do is -
1. Dial “1”. This connects the calling party to the direct distance dialing equipment. 2. Dial the three digit area code ■ 716 - for Buffalo, New York. 3. The subscriber then dials the Buffalo telephone number. After the final digit is dialed, in most cases, the local operator will come in on the line momentarily and request the calling party’s telephone number. This is done for billing purposes. A subscriber placing a call within the State of Virginia need only dial the prefix code “1” and the telephone number. Dementi also noted that the new telephone directory will be delivered to each subscriber shortly before November 17. As there will be over 3,000 number changes contained ih the new directory, C&P urges all customers to consult their directory before dialing.
