In a community in which I once lived the people used a colloquialism I’ve never heard any other place. When they heard something they couldn’t accept as fact they would say, “That sticks in my craw.” or “I can’t swallow that.”

Maybe a little of their doubting rubbed off on me. I cannot conceive of a thing being wholly <me thing and wholly another at the same time. Here are a few phrases that ‘stick in my craw’, wholly God wholly human, God in the flesh and Mother of God. I am not trying to be sacriligious, there are just some things I cannot accept.

I do accept Christ as being a Son of God. I have no trouble in believing that Mary was a virgin, where I run into trouble is believing she was the Mother of God. I think Christ was more human than divine. Only by being almost entirely human, but with a greater spark of the divine fire of love, could He have manifested as a Son of God in the flesh.

As my wife suggests, I may be a nut, but I choose to follow the almost human Christ because He can understand my human frailties. He walked in the WAY I try to walk.

“All the days of my life till the night,

TTien, when I lay down to slumber awhile

May the greenwood of souls be in sight.”
