A young man from Sperryville was the fatal victim of a single-car traffic crash about 9:30 Tuesday night, and two others sustained injuries in the wreck. The tragedy occurred in Rappahannock County on Route 231 near the Madison line.
Woodrow Franklin Deal, 18, was apparently killed instantly when the car in which he was a passenger went out of control, ran off the left of the highway, struck several fence posts and a large gate post, then rolled 200 feet down through a Reid, according to Trooper R. M. Dodson.
Operator of the vehicle, a 68 Chevy II sport coupe, was Robert A. Deal, 22, brother of the fatal victim. He sustained back, neck and abdomen injuries and lacerations of the head. He is a patient in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Deal and were enroute to their home nearby from their work in Culpeper.
Another passenger in the car, Robert S. Dodson, 18, received a neck injury and lacerations of the leg. He was treated at the hospital and released. They were taken to the hospital by Madison Rescue Squad.
No funeral arrangements had been made at press time.
This is the fourth fatal traffic victim in Rappahannock County this year. Thanksgiving Eve two young people from Warrenton succumbed in a single-car crash near Amissville and Robert Lee Dodson of Washington died in a crash in March.
T. Carlyle Lea, Jr. of Culpeper sustained a leg injury and head laceration in a single-vehicle crash Saturday night. The crash occurred on Route 211 west of Amissville.
