A number of traffic crashes have been reported the past week with damages slight and injuries minor.
A mile and a half west of Amissvilie on Route 211 a single vehicle crash occurred May 28. Boyce Evert Null of Brentwood, Md., operating a 69 Ford pickup, struck three mail boxes and hit a culvert. Damage to the truck was estimated at $300 and mail boxes were repaired. Null was charged with reckless driving by Trooper W. A. Buntin.
On May 29 at Ben Venue on Route 211 Joseph Mills of Shenandoah operating a 67 Mercury struck the bank when he avoided another vehicle making a left turn. Frances Shaffer of Washington, D.C. in a 65 Volkswagen failed to give a signal before turning from the right lane. She was cited by Trooper Buntin for failing to signal. There were no injuries and damage to the Mills vehicle was estimated at $125.
Charles H. Cannon of Woodville driving a 65 Ford was struck in the rear by a 69 Mercury in front of Baldwin’s Grocery west of Washington on Sunday. Donald Francis Perreault of Dayville, Conn, was charged with following too closely. Cannon was making a tum into the store lot and Perreault failed to see his signal. Damage was estimated at $200 to Cannon and $400 to Perreault. Yesterday morning just north of Huntly on Route 522 a car struck a horse. Fred William Plaugher of Strasburg operating a 64 Ford was not injured when he struck a horse owned by Roy Knight of Huntly. The horse was skinned and cut but survived. Damage to the Plaughter vehicle was estimated at $150.
Trooper Buntin investigated these crashes also.
On Thursday a one-car crash occurred on Route 211 four miles i west of Sperryville around noon. A 65 Dodge Dart operated by Berthold Zarwyn of Bailey’s Crossroads overturned and injured three occupants.
According to the report filed by the investigating officer, Zarwyn sustained bruises and scratches; Helen P. Jones of Falls Church sustained facial bruises and Irene W. Parker, also of Falls Church, had lacerations of the right knee and scalp and a fractured left shoulder, knee and ankle. Damage to the car was set at $600.
Cheater Gap VBS Scheduled June 8-12
The Chester Gap Baptist Church will have Vacation Bible School beginning on June 8 through June 12 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. All age groups, nursery through intermediate in the area are invited to attend. The Bible School Commencement will be held on Sunday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m.
