Capt. L. B. Stuart was honored on his seventieth birthday with a dinner given by Mrs. Stuart at their home in Amissville on Saturday, July 4. Guests for dinner and weekend who brought best wishes were Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Underwood and daughters, Misses Judy and Kay Underwood and Mrs. Peggy Spicer, all of Baltimore, Md., Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nelson and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. John Uncle, all of Springfield, Marvin H. Underwood and a friend from Hanover, Pa. and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Underwood and family of Charleston, S. C. The Robert Underwoods remained with the Stuarts until Friday.
Among local friends who joined the group for birthday cake and fireworks were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Slavik of Culpeper, Mr. and Mrs. John Tapp, Mrs. Francis Leonard and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Scharmer.
Capt. Stuart had resigned his position from the Rappahannock County Planning Commission and the County Zoning Appeals Board, and had also relinquished two offices with Amissville Methodist Church. Capt. Stuart said he did this “before he got too old.”
