The following is a list of students from Rappahannock County who are, or will be attending schools or colleges away from home. If your name is not on the list, or if your child’s name is not listed or you know of a friend who is attending a school, please bring it to our attention. It is impossible for us to know of everyone, though we have made a great effort to obtain them.
Among the Rappahannock students entering or returning to college and schools this term are, those attending VPI: Tommy Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. V. Williams of Flint Hill returning for his second year; Ned Moffett Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Jones of Washington, entering his senior year; Ronald Williams, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James S. Williams of Chester Gap, Floyd Grigsby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin P. Grigsby of Castleton, Miss Amy Palmer, daughter of Mrs. C. B. Palmer of Ashland, formerly of Washington, Va., entering for the first time; and Wayne Deal, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Deal of Sperryville will enter his second year. Attending Radford College will be Miss Susan F. Dodson, daughter of Mrs. James S. Dodson of Flint Hill, Miss Gail Updike, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Crafts Qroup Pursue*
Oriental Arts
The Rappahannock Arts and Crafts group met September 8 at Cab Inn, Sperryville to see a demonstration on tie dying given by Mrs. R. B. Allen of Flint Hill. Mrs. Allen is an artist who has traveled and lived in the Orient. She has had experience in the Oriental arts of silk screening, batik and tie dying.
The next meeting of this group is scheduled for September 22 to continue with tie dying and related crafts with an introduction to batik.
A forward look is taken to the October 13 meeting at which time Mrs. Sue Franklin of the Family Hobby Shop in Culpeper will give an illustrated lecture and some background of batik. She has lived in parts of the Orient and Europe much of her life and will show examples of this type of art from Indonesia and Java. Batik has become quite popular and for those who would like to pursue this art, the Family Hobby Shop will be able to order supplies for their needs.
