Dissent, yes. Peaceful dissent? NO. It seems that most of the news media are focusing on this so-called dissension, possibly causing it to grow out of all {proportion to its actual1 importance. I am growing so tired of it I am beginning to adopt the ostrich attitude of hiding my head in the sand, or just turning the TV or radio off. Maybe if we ignore it, it will go away.
Have we forgotten how to listen? There used to be such sayings as, listen and learn or ‘speak only when your words are more golden than your silence’. Before we had so many superhighways we would see a large, white cross ahead of us with bold black letters advising us to STOP, LOOK, LISTEN. I don’t think that listening is a lost art; I believe that we hear so much noise that nature gives us a sort of protection in that we can ignore it, or shut it out of our consciousness.
I am glad that God gave us the sense of hearing. There are times that we wish we didn’t have to hear some of the sounds that offend our senses, but for the most part, aren’t you glad you can hear? I am going to add one word to one of my favorite verses in the Bible. “Be STILL (LISTEN) and KNOW that I AM GOD.”
