IF YOU ARE PLANNING to top dress your pasture or hay fields this spring and haven’t gotten the job done yet, you had better get a move on. Grasses and legumes make the best utilization of fertilizer when it is applied before growth starts. And many of the hillsides are already starting to green up.
CHARLIE COMPTON REMINDED me the other night that this is the time to spray pastures for control of musk and curled thistles.
Thistles are still in the rosette stage, yet actively growing and this is the time when they are most susceptible to control measures. Spray when the temperature will reach at least 60 degrees sometime during the day. Make sure you use enough water for adequate coverage. Do not spray when the wind is blowing. And do not use more than 30 pounds pressure per square inch. For more detailed recommendations contact the Extension Office.
NOW LET’S TALK SOME trash. The young people are really going all out to clean-up the trash on the county’s secondary roads. We have become pretty trashie over the winter and this is going to take some doing. Let’s pitch in and give them all the encouragement and help we can. Why not call your District Captain or Co-Captain andgive them a verbal pat on the back and volunteer your services.
