AFTER A SERIES of meetings held recently with farmers and business leaders from Warren, Page, Shenandoah, Clarke, Rappahannock and Fauquier counties, a farmer group has voted to build and operate a modern, first-class livestock auction just north of Front Royal.
The location selected is ai the east side of routes 340-522, within sight of the Interstate 66 interchange, and six miles from Interstate 81.
The steering committee for the group has authorized their attorney and agent, Douglas Arthur of Strasburg, to proceed with the corporate organization which will be known as the Virginia Producers Livestock Market.
The decision to form the new market was based on the “enthusiastic response” of farmers and businessmen who attended the planning meetings held at Strasburg, Luray and Front Royal, as well as the desire expressed by many other individuals to be owners in such a market.
