In reply to questions asked, Resident Engineer James Skeens said, “The4 bridge has deteriorated and will deteriorate progressively. Since the collapse of a steel span in West Virginia a program of rigid inspection and replacement has been undertaken by the Highway Department.
“These structures are questionable, but there is not immediate danger. The load limit is seven tons and the fact that the bridge is one lane and must be approached slowly is a safety factor.”
