OF ALL AMERICAN holidays, the Fourth of July takes top honors. And of all places to celebrate the Glorious Fourth, a small town is the best — and we mean a small town, not those sickly imitations called “suburbs.”
So it is with real pleasure that we look forward to this year’s Fourth celebration in Rappahannock County. The town-wide open air market — “Super Flea Market,” Mrs. Mary Jamieson calls it — that is planned for the streets of Washington promises to provide a festive setting for observance of the nation’s birthday.
And when you remember that its all for a worthy county cause, the undertaking takes on a truly red, white and blue hue. What better way for Americans to celebrate the Fourth of July than by working together for a community enterprise of such value to present and future generations as the public library!
